What It Is

One of the most difficult parts of being on a board is having to make decisions using imperfect information. And when you are handed a stack of financial information to make those decisions, it can be a daunting task to make sense of what all those numbers mean.

In this virtual course, we will cover some of the tools that can be used to break down financial information in a meaningful and useful way. Facilitators from our DirectHer Team will walk you through:

  • Governance from a financial perspective, including common financial roles and responsibilities.

  • Introduction to financial policies and why segregation of duties is so important.

  • Key financial reporting considerations and best practices for NPOs.

  • Practical ways to approach financial analysis and budgeting to help monitor financial performance.

  • A case study that ties the key concepts together.

Who is it For

This course is open to everyone but is intended for non-accountant directors / aspiring directors who want to increase their confidence in navigating the financial aspects of not for profit board service. That said, if you haven't thought of not for profit accounting principles since you wrote the UFE/CFE - this may be a great refresher!
